PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a miniaturized and bidirectional optical intersection switch by selectively inclining a pair of micromirrors individually selected from respective arrays respectively corresponding to optical waveguides of first and second sets. SOLUTION: Grating arrays 12, 13 for two deformable micromirrors 30 are arranged on two parallel planes, i.e., an input plane PIN and an output plane POUT, of two substrates vertically separated from each other. Input fibers 141 to 144 are optically aligned with resective waveguides 201 to 204 , which are optically aligned with corresponding input rows I1 to I4 of the 1st grating array 13 on the lower substrate. Output optical fibers 151 to 154 are aligned with respective waveguides 211 to 214 corresponding to the columns O1 to O4 of the grating array 12 on the upper substrate. Light switching can be executed by inclining a mirror 30 on the input row and its corresponding mirror 30 on the output row and forming an optical path from the input waveguide 20 up to the output waveguide 21 through the two selected mirrors 30 for reflecting light. |
