PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a ceramic printing member which is provided with higher strength, higher breakdown resistance and higher wear resistance and which is more light in weight. SOLUTION: This planographic printing member is provided with a printing surface consisting of an anodized zirconium metallic or alloy layer whose density is 5.0 to 5.8 g/cm<3> . By an image forming method using this member, an image is formed on the printing surface by exposing the image of the printing surface on an electromagnetic radiation beam by a laser so that the planographic printing surface having both of an image area and a non-image area is produced by changing the exposure area of the printing surface to be lipophilic from hydrophilic or to be hydrophilic from lipophilic.
