PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To separate whether a fault is in existence in the direction of a subscriber device from a station device or conversely a fault is in existence in a direction of the station device in the passive optical network system that conducts maintenance between the subscriber device and the station device by using a monitor/control packet. SOLUTION: A station device 1 and a subscriber device 2 conduct same prescribed arithmetic operation to detect a bit error, with respect to transmission permission, and the arithmetic result by the subscriber device 2 is sent to a station device 1. When a packet cannot be detected in an expected time slot, whether a transmission permission signal sent in an outgoing direction is not corrected received or a packet cannot be sent due to faults in the subscriber device 1 or the like, regardless whether the transmission permission signal has been correctly received is identified by comparing both. |
