PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a safety secondary battery with low sulfur vapor pressure, less corrosion, no possibility of quick reaction caused by separator breakage by operating at temperature lower than that of the existing sulfur battery. SOLUTION: A secondary battery utilizing intercalation/deintercalation of a different kind of metal into/from transition metal sulfide is constituted by using molten sulfur-sulfide as an electrolyte. Since intercalation reaction of the different kind of metal into the transition metal sulfide is used, a non- separator type battery can be constituted. Violent, direct reaction of sodium and sulfur produced by the breakage of a β-alumina separator (solid electrolyte) in a sodium-sulfur (Na/S) secondary battery is prevented, and the safety battery can be obtained. |
