PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a flame-retardant insulated electric wire free from elution of heavy-metallic compounds or generation of corrosive gases at the time of waste disposal such as dumping and burning-up, in the case of flame-retardant insulated electric wires used for internal and external wiring of electric or electronic apparatuses. SOLUTION: In a flame-retardant insulated electric wire A provided with a coating layer having a strip-like discrimination layer 3 continuing in the longitudinal direction on the circumference of a conductor 1, a main coating layer 2 excluding the strip-like discrimination layer 3 is formed of a flame- retardant resin composition made by mixing 80 to 120 pts.wt. of a metal hydrate and 2.5 to 12.5 pts.wt. of red phosphorus with 100 pts.wt. of a polyolefinic resin, and the strip-like discrimination layer 3 is formed of a colorable polyolefinic resin composition not including red phosphorus.
