PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To generate a new postal code corresponding to respective address data without executing an updating work of the data by effectively using the existing address data in an address data managing device and a record medium which generate the new postal code from a district name database in which the new postal code is stored and the address data in which the postal code, an address, a name of the destination, etc., are included. SOLUTION: The address data 5 is taken out, the district name corresponding to its former postal code with fewer digits is extracted from the district name database 8 by an extracting part 1a of the district name corresponding to the former number, the district name is collated with the contents of the address of the address data by a district name collating part 1b and a starting position of a name of a town or a village after there coincidence is detected. The address data managing device is constituted to generate the new postal code by discriminating the maximum number of characters in which the name of the town or the village coincides with the one in an applicable district in the district name database 3 by a detecting part 1c of the number corresponding to the name of the town or the village, adding the added new postal code of low-order digits corresponding to the name of the town or the village with the maximum number of characters in which coincidence is detected to the former postal code of high-order digits. |
