PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To speedily inspect an object on a circular work which is rotated at an unspecified angle. SOLUTION: Inputted inspection image data are supplied to a polar coordinate converting circuit 42 and a search arithmetic circuit 11. A work circumferential upper model image 21 and a work circumferential right-part model image 24 are supplied from an image data storage circuit 12 to the search arithmetic circuit 11, which searches for positions at the circumference of the work in an inspection image on the basis of the work circumferential upper model image 12 and work circumferential right-part model image 24. An arithmetic circuit 41 calculates the center position of the work from the positions at the circumference. The polar coordinate converting circuit 42 performs the polar coordinate conversion of the work image data of the inspection image data by using the center position of the work.
