PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an information reproducing device low in reproduction error rate of information recorded in an information recording medium and the control method therefor with an inexpensive configuration by obtaining an appropriate reproducing signal amplitude at all times without being affected by the non-uniformity of the sensitivity of a signal detector like a magnetic head and the individual difference of the signal strength and sensitivity of signals recorded in the information recording medium. SOLUTION: This information reproducing device is provided with a medium carrying mechanism 8 for carrying a medium 1 where the information is recorded at a prescribed speed and a head 2 for reading the information recorded in the medium as electric signals 3 and reproduces the information based on the signal waveform of the electric signals. In this case, it is provided with an amplitude detector 4 for detecting the amplitude of the electric signals 3 and a speed setting device 6 for setting a carrying speed by the medium carrying mechanism 8 based on the amplitude detected by the amplitude detector 4. |
