<p>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid crystal display which has a high numerical aperture and has excellent display quality without residual DC voltage, etc., when driven. SOLUTION: This active matrix type liquid crystal display is composed of a substrate, a scanning wiring 1, a signal wiring 2, switching elements, an insulating flat layer having a flat surface formed on the substrate, and picture element electrodes 5 connected with the switching elements via contact holes arranged on the flat layer. In this arrangement, additional capacitive electrodes 7 are provided between each picture element electrode 5 and a scanning wiring 1a which is either of the preceding stage or the post-stage of the scanning wiring 1 corresponding to each switching element, and thereby a modulating potential which controls the potential of the signal wiring 2 to be impressed on the picture element electrode 5 during ON-period of the switching elements and properly changes the potential from the signal wiring 2 impression on the picture element electrodes 5 during OFF-period of the switching elements, is arranged so as to be impressed on the picture element electrodes 5 from the scanning wiring 1a via the additional capacitance electrode 7.</p> |
