The automatic sliding door has a main operating drive with an electric motor for movement of at least one door panel (1a, 1b) along a sliding runner and an auxiliary drive for emergency operation of the sliding door, provided by an energy store, e.g. a rubber band, acting on the drive coupling between the electric motor and the door panel. The energy store has a guide element (8) locating in a guide parallel to the door panel movement upon release of the stored energy and provided with a friction brake.
