Implantable biomaterials adapted for use in contact with blood or blood components containing platelets have applied to the surface thereof a recombinant platelet-binding, adhesive protein, such as vitronectin, which is mutated at the platelet receptor binding site. The resultant biomaterials exhibit reduced thrombosis due to platelet adhesion and aggregation.
