In the production of clean steam, a certain amount of water is removed from the process as a reject stream. To maintain product steam quality, the ratio of the reject stream to the product stream must be above a given threshold value. Measurement of the reject stream by conventional methods is difficult. According to the invention, a shutoff valve is provided in the reject line with two level sensors fitted at higher, separate levels. As the valve opens at the signal from the upper level sensor and closes at the signal from the lower sensor, and the volume corresponding to the tubing between the level sensors is known, the reject flow can be measured. A method and a device providing for measurement according to the invention are disclosed.
