A novel sunscreen formulation contains one or more organic and/or inorganic sunscreen filter(s) (I) having a prophylactic effect against herpetic skin diseases. Preferably (I) absorb light in the ultraviolet A (UV-A) and UV-B regions, and especially also absorb in the infrared (IR) and visible regions.
