The chip card uses a read/write device to access data in a memory element independently of access logic. An additional processor is integrated in a plastic card as an access control unit (11), physically separated from the interface (9). Access logic is designed in two steps, so that tasks depending on selectable roles can be selected and data exchange can be handled correspondingly. The access control unit is fitted with its own additional memory elements (12,13). These store roles and access authorization for appropriate tasks as well as access to memory elements (3,4,5).
