A device for contact-free control of a light source in connection with dimming technology and a light barrier has switching on and off of a light source (11) executed by momentary influencing of the radiation path (14) of a light barrier (12). A dimming process is effected by longer influencing of the radiation path of the light barrier, whereby the desired degree of dimming is adjusted individually. With longer influencing of the radiation path of the light barrier in the off-state, the light source is first switched on in the lowest dimming position and after a short delay, is dimmed upwards.
