The invention relates to a beam forming optical arrangement for a device which is provided for carrying out a method in order to cut brittle, non-metallic material with a laser (1). At least one beam forming element forms the emitting laser beam (2) in such a way that the beam has a defined beam profile in a working plane (5). The beam forming element comprises at least one beam forming surface having either a microstructured surface which is configured according to the principle of the phase-matched Fresnel zone plate or, in another manner, functions as an optical diffraction phase element.
