The thin sheet metal cover body (8) forms part of a sphere with a seal (10) round its outside periphery where it faces the housing endface (4) as well as angled segments (9) spread round the periphery and standing normal to the body surface. The seal presents an annular reinforcing collar (11) at each segment and the body has a lug (12) projecting at the rim for a release tool. For use in internal combustion engine housings, the cover comes in two parts, part (6) fitted into the hole (7) of a housing cover (2) separate from the housing (5) and a cover fixed to the housing. In this case, the hole has a conical sector and the specifically deep drawn cover has an axially projecting seal (13) where it faces the housing endface (4).
