PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enhance the overdischarge resistant characteristics of a lead-acid battery by using an expanded grid having superior trickle life characteristics. SOLUTION: The surface layer of a recrystallized structure having a thickness equivalent to 30% or less of the thickness of the grid is formed on the surface of an expanded grid made of a lead alloy containing 1.2 wt.% or more tin, an active material is retained in the expanded grid to form an electrode plate. By using the electrode plate, trickle life I and the capacity recovering rate II can be improved as shown by lead-acid batteries B, C, D, and E.
