Method of controlling the timing of processes in data processing system

The method involves associating the programs (Q1,Q2) running in at least one processor (P1,P2) with at least one stop point (S8) using a control program. At least one control data item is prepared for each stop point which identifies the program and which defines its change of state from active to inactive. Whilst they are running the processes are interrupted at their associated stop points and the state changes of the identified processes are allowed according to the control information (SUSP,UNSU) associated with the stop points.
