The digital communication apparatus of the present invention aims to increase the communication capacity, increase the amount of data transmission, improve in radio communication performance such as its resistance against fading and interference. By performing multicarrier modulation at DMT modulation unit 90, followed by spreading modulation at spreading modulation unit 14, the multicarrier modulation and the spread spectrum are combined to obtain merits from both. The performance is improved further by using discrete orthogonal wavelet inverse transformation in the multicarrier modulation in M-band wavelet inverse transformer 29.
