The electrical fluorescent strip lighting unit has a rectangular housing that includes the electrical starter circuitry and has a pair of socket covers (13) at each end that receive the ends of the lighting tubes. Each socket unit projects on the outside of the main housing wall (22) and have a box shaped form. The sockets (31) are inset with a guide or lead in section (30) formed with a number of latching elements (24) that engage the housing to install the units on the main housing wall. Corner sections are formed with guide bushes (32) that receive the connecting wires.
