PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a new polypeptide having high identity of a nucleic acid encoding a histidine kinase polypeptide containing a specific amino acid sequence, useful for treating and diagnosing a bacterial wound infection, especially an infection with a bacterium of the genus Streptococcus, etc. SOLUTION: This new isolated polynucleotide comprises a polypeptide having at least 70% identity of a polynucleotide encoding a polypeptide containing an amino acid sequence of the formula, a polynucleotide having at least 70% identity of a polynucleotide encoding the same mature polypeptide as that expressed by a histidine kinase gene contained in Streptococcus pneumonia of deposited strain, etc., and is useful for screening an antibacterial compound, treating and diagnosing a bacterial wound infection, especially, a bacterial wound infection with Streptococcus pneumonia, etc. The polynucleotide is obtained by probing the chromosome ONA library of Streptococcus pneumonia with a partial sequence-derived oligonucleotide. |
