PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain an antimicrobial fabric and a film capable of maintaining excellent antimicrobial properties for a long period of time and a method for producing them. SOLUTION: A coated film composed of hydroxyapatite is formed on the surface of a yarn constituting a fabric and the fabric is immersed in a water dispersion in which fine particles of titanium dioxide are dispersed. Consequently the objective antimicrobial fabric supporting the fine particles of titanium dioxide on the surface of the coated film composed of hydroxyapatite is obtained. The above-mentioned treatment is carried out by using a fabric such as a woven fabric, a nonwoven fabric, etc., an open cell foam comprising a synthetic resin such as a polystyrene, polyurethane, etc., a porous film or a porous hollow yarn comprising a polyethylene, a polypropylene, etc., to give the objective antimicrobial film material. The thickness of the coated film composed of hydroxyapatite is preferably 1-30μm and the particle diameter of titanium dioxide is preferably 1-100 nm.
