PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing methyl methacrylate in which the defect of a new ACH method (an improved ACH method for obtaining methyl methacrylate from prussic acid and acetone used as raw materials through acetone cyanohydrin hydrin) is eliminated. SOLUTION: This method for producing methyl methacrylate comprises a step 1 for producing acetone cyanohydrin from prussic acid and acetone, a step 2 for producingα-hydroxyisolactic acid amide by hydrating acetone cyanohydrin, a step 3 for producing methylα-hydroxyisolactate and ammonia fromα-hydroxyisolactic amide and methanol, a step 4 for producing methyl methacrylate by dehydrating methylα-hydroxyisolactate and a step 5 for producing prussic acid in a vapor phase by reacting methanol with ammonia obtained in the step 3 on a solid catalyst in the presence of a molecular oxygen.
