PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an ink for ink jet of which the disperse dye or pigment is filtered efficiently at the filtration step and which has good stagnation stability and to provide a process for producing the same. SOLUTION: This ink, at least contg. a disperse dye and/or a pigment, a dispersant, water, and an org. solvent, is characterized in that the surface tension before the filtration step is 55 dyn/cm or lower; the max. particle size of the disperse dye or pigment is 500 nm or lower; and the ink is filtered with a filter medium comprising a tetrafluoroethylene resin.
