PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide the device and method for curtain-coating the surface. SOLUTION: This device consists of a liq. holder 10, and the holder 10 is opened to the atmosphere and divided by a wall extended orthogonally to the coating direction into two channels. The liq. is supplied to the first channel 11, namely the channel away from the curtain. A resistance is imparted to the flow by the continuous and adjustable gap 24 between the partition wall 13 and the bottom of the liq. holder, however the coating composition is sent to the second channel 12 from the first channel 11. The second channel 12 has a horizontal and relatively low end, and hence the composition overflows the end to form a free-falling curtain 18.
