PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a material for an organic luminous layer favorable for utilizing energy transferred to a triplet exciton for light emission by including a phosphorescent substance having a specific value or above of phosphorescent luminous intensity and a triplet level and a rare earth complex therein. SOLUTION: This material comprises a phosphorescent substance having a phosphorescent luminous intensity of that of benzophenone or above and a rare earth complex (e.g. a europium complex having aβ-diketone ligand), and the phosphorescent substance has a triplet level of that of a ligand in the rare earth complex or above. The phosphorescent substance preferably contains a benzoyl group represented by formula I (R1 is an alkyl, a cycloalkyl, an acyl or an aryl; R2 to R6 are each H, an alkyl, a cycloalkyl, an acyl or an aryl) or its complex group and is especially preferably a benzophenone derivative represented by formula II (R1 to R10 are each H, hydroxyl group, an alkyl, a cycloalkyl, an acyl, amino, nitro, an alkoxy, cyano or an aryl) or its derivative.
