METHOD FOR DECOMPOSITION OF PCB

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent a reaction apparatus from corrosion and to stably and efficiently decompose an org. chlorine compd. by a method wherein an org. compd. is reacted with sodium hydroxide to form sodium carbonate and at PCB is decomposed by using this sodium carbonate. SOLUTION: At the first stage, an oil or an org. solvent is oxidized for adjusting a PCB decomposition condition and sodium bicarbonate and sodium carbonate are formed. At this stage, in a reaction oven, sodium bicarbonate and sodium carbonate are formed and sodium carbonate is made into fine particles with high surface activity. In addition, at the second stage, in the presence of the sodium carbonate fine particles formed at the first stage, PCB is oxidatively decomposed. At this stage, chlorines in the PCB are reacted with sodium to produce sodium chloride and sodium carbonate is reacted with carbon dioxide produced by oxidation of PCB to produce sodium bicarbonate. In addition, excess carbon dioxide is turned to carbonic acid.
