PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing the subject compound useful as a medicinal intermediate by asymmetrically reducing a specific mesoimide compound with an optically active amino alcohol borane complex obtained from a specific optically active amino alcohol and a borane. SOLUTION: This compound of formula III is obtained by asymmetrically reducing a mesoimide compound (e.g. cis-2-benzyl-octahydroisoindol-1,3-dione) of formula I (R<1> and R<2> are each an acetoxy, butyrylene, or the like; and Bz is a lower alkyl or a lower alkoxy) by using an optically active amino alcohol borane complex obtained from a specific optically active amino alcohol (e.g. 2-amino-3-trimethysiloxane-1,1-diphenylbutanol) of formula II (R<5> to R<7> are each H, a lower alkyl, or the like; R<8> and R<9> are each H, a lower alkoxy, or the like; and * is an asymmetric carbon) and a borane (pref. tetrahydrofuran borane complex) in a solvent at pref. 0 to 80 deg.C. |
