PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve the water proof function of a working section to secure the reliability of detection function for a ling term by wholly forming a section from a connection part between a working body being in contact with the outside of a machine body and a push and pull wire for detecting its working quantity to a stroke measuring section in a water proof structure. SOLUTION: This is a stroke detecting device for a moving device (copy cutter) in a tunnel boring machine, a case 11 for accommodating a movable member 12 in an attaching part 2 of the moving device (copy cutter) is equipped with a closed space having a water proof structure. A push and pull wire 6 to connect the movable member 12 with the stroke measuring section 4 is connected through a rod having a universal joint structure in the closed space of the case 11, and its section from the case 11 where the movable member 12 is accommodated and supported to the stroke measuring section 4 is covered with a protecting tube 23 and thereby formed in a water proof structure.
