FIELD: non-ferrous metallurgy, namely methods for producing magnesium by electrolysis of melt metals. ^ SUBSTANCE: method comprises steps of cyclically removing slime-electrolyte mixture out of electrolyzer working with use of chlorine-magnesium raw material; loading said mixture into heated vessel into which solid sodium chloride and calcium oxide are also fed; melting prepared mixture, settling it and returning clarified part of mixture to electrolyzer; mixing solid sodium chloride and calcium oxide before loading them to heated vessel or feeding simultaneously or successively; loading solid sodium chloride into heated vessel at relation "sodium chloride : electrolyte" equal to 1 - (15 - 25) and loading calcium oxide at relation "calcium oxide : electrolyte" equal to 1 : (300-600); melting mixture in heated vessel at temperature 700 - 720°C while keeping content of sodium chloride in melt mixture no less than 40%. ^ EFFECT: lowered passivation of cathodes due to elimination of adding to electrolyzer wet salt additives such as sodium chloride and prevention of foaming, increased magnesium yield by electric current, reduced chlorine losses, prevention of chlorine separation to maintenance zone. ^ 8 cl, 3 ex |
