PURPOSE:To obtain a route searching apparatus which can speedily and correctly search for a route with a small quantity of data. CONSTITUTION:Road data formed from a first level to a third level are stored in an external storage device 6. The road data of each level stores the data of roads including overlapping areas of a block sectioned in a road map and the other peripheral blocks adjacent to the block. When a starting point and a destination are designated from an input device 2, a control device 8 selects sequentially from the road data of the lowest level road data including either one of the two points, and one road data including the two points or two road data able to connect the two points by the overlapping area, thereby to determine the road data to be used to search for a route. Then, the route connecting the two points is searched based on the determined road data. |
