The present invention relates to a method for fetching wrapper rolls into an operating position in a wrapping machine for packaging paper, board and cellulosic web rolls. The wrapping machine comprises movable stub shaft arms (9) carrying stub shafts (19, 23) for supporting said wrapper material roll (3) by its center bore. In the method, a new wrapper roll (2) is placed in a fetch station determined by its roll diameter so that the center bore of the wrapper roll coincides tangentially with the trajectory of the stub shafts (19, 23) carried by the stub shaft arms (9). The stub shafts (19, 23) are moved by rotating the stub shaft arms (9) about a pivot point (17) toward the wrapper roll (2) to be picked. The center bore of the wrapper roll (2) is detected and the stub shaft arms (9) are moved laterally toward the ends of the wrapper roll (2) and having the stub shafts partially entering the wrapper roll center bore. The brakes locking the rotational movement of the stub shaft arms (9) are released and the stub shaft arms are laterally moved against the ends of the wrapper roll (2), after which the wrapper roll (2) is transferred into its operating position. |
