Racemic metallocene compounds represented by general formula (1) and meso-metallocene compounds represented by general formula (2). In the formulae, M represents titanium, zirconium, or hafnium; Y represents carbon, silicon, germanium, or tin; X<1> and X<2> each represents halogeno or a hydrocarbon group; R<2> and R<3> each represents halogeno, alkyl, aralkyl, aryl, hydrocarbon-substituted silyl, alkoxy, aralkyloxy, or aryloxy; and R<1>, R<4>, R<5>, R<6>, R<7>, and R<8> each represents hydrogen, halogeno, alkyl, aralkyl, aryl, hydrocarbon-substituted silyl, alkoxy, aralkyloxy, or aryloxy.
