PURPOSE:To provide a new amide amine having excellent softness and improved bio-degradability and useful as a surfactant, especially as a softener for cloth, hair, etc. CONSTITUTION:The amide amine of formula I (R<1> is 1-6C alkyl or hydroxyalkyl; R<2> is 8-36C alkyl or alkenyl; R<3> is 7-35C alkyl or alkenyl; n is integer of 1-3), e.g. the compound of formula II. The compound of formula I can be produced by adding an alkyl glycidyl ether of formula IV or 3-chloro-2-hydroxypropyl alkyl ether of formula V to a secondary aminonitrile of formula III, hydrogenating the obtained aminonitrile of formula VI using a catalyst to obtain an amine of formula VII, optionally subjecting the amine to repeated cyanoethylation and hydrogenation reactions with acrylonitrile and finally amidating the obtained amine of formula VIII with a fatty acid or a fatty acid ester of formula R<3> COOR<4> (R<4> is H or 1-3C alkyl). |
