FIELD: in- service inspection of storage batteries. SUBSTANCE: method involves calculation of ratio of amount of electrolyte at 30 C and its rated level found by using known algorithm and recorded in beginning of battery operation to amount of electrolyte at 30 C and its rated level periodically calculated in the course of operation using same algorithm. This ratio is quantitative characteristic of active material swelling in the course of operation of storage battery. EFFECT: improved regulation of battery characteristics due to its condition inspection in the course of operation. 5 tbl
