A recycling system (10) for laundry wash water having a collection tank (12) for collecting used wash water includes a holding tank (20) connected to the collection tank (12) which has heat exchange piping (26) in the interior of the holding tank (20). A lint/grit separator (42) is connected to the holding tank (20). A lint filter (64) acting as a second stage in lint removal is connected to the holding tank (20). An oil absorption filter (80) for removing free oil is connected to the lint filter (64). A media filter (105) having a medium of fine rock is connected to the oil absorption filter (80). A hydrocarbon absorption filter (130) is connected to the media filter (105). An activated carbon filter (140) is connected to the hydrocarbon absorption filter (130). A final holding tank (156) is connected to an ozone generator (158) that cleans and processes water leaving the final holding tank (156). Clean and processed water leaving the final holding tank (156) is channeled to the heat exchange piping (26) in the holding tank (20) which uses the used wash water from the collection tank (12) to heat the clean and processed water before the clean and processed water goes on to a hot water server (6) connected to a washing machine facility (2).
