A wiper seal (16) is disclosed which includes an elastomeric member (40) having a metal support member (42) adhesively bonded thereto. The elastometic member (40) has a first substantially flat surface (44) that is perpendicular to a reference axis (23) of the wiper seal (16), an outer peripheral surface (48) that is substantially parallel with the reference axis (23), and an inner peripheral surface (50) that forms an acute angle with the reference axis (23). The metal support member (42) has a first leg portion (60) that coincides with the outer peripheral surface (48) and a second leg portion (62) that coincides with the substantially flat perpendicular surface (44). The intersection of the first and second leg portions (60, 62) forms a generally sharp corner (56) or at least a predetermined minimum radius size. When the wiper seal (16) is installed in a recess (24) of a housing (14), the substantially flat perpendicular surface (44) is generally flush with the surface (26) of the housing (14) adjacent the recess (24) to substantially eliminate recesses or pockets that could retain dirt and/or other contaminants.
