Flexible polymer heart valve for replacement of a human heart valve is modified by a plasma process. Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) a modified flexible polymer heart valve for replacement of a human heart valve, comprising a flexible polymer heart valve that has been microscopically polished and implanted with carbon by plasma ion implantation; (2) a modified flexible polymer heart valve for replacement of a human heart valve in which other materials are used for microscopic polishing by plasma ion implantation, especially biocompatible materials such as carbon or silicon carbide; (3) a modified flexible polymer heart valve for replacement of a human heart valve where the modification comprises implantation and polishing with bio-hemocompatible substances other than heparin, taurine and 3-aminopropyltriethoxysilane.
