A method for preparing a water proofed foundation for a building, e.g. a cellar, has an initial concrete base layer (1) of 5 to 7 cm laid onto the ground and covered with bitumen when set.Bitumen strips are laid cross ways over the full area of the base layer and rolled. A glass fiber thermal cladding (4) is laid leaving a bare edge surround. The final concrete layer (5) is laid, leaving the edge surround clear. The walls are build onto the final concrete layer, leaving another surround lip. The walls are sealed using bitumen layers (6,7) which extends down over the stepped profile and onto the base bitumen layer
