A message edition method of a mobile communication terminal is provided to assign numbers to each word of the terminal, and to move a location of a cursor displayed on a display unit in order to modify a word corresponding to a selected number, thus a user can simply and conveniently modify a message. Numbers are assigned to displayed words. When a number is inputted, a cursor is moved to a word assigned with the inputted number. When the numbers are assigned, different numbers are allocated to the words. The numbers are sequentially allocated to the displayed words. The assigned numbers are displayed together with the words. If a direction key is inputted, a word next to the currently displayed word is displayed.
