The microscope has at least two splitters (22) dividing the beam (57) leaving the optical system of variable focal length, into transmitted- and reflected beams. An intersecting plane between a beam splitting surface (22L(R)) of one beam-splitting element (22L), and a beam splitting surface (22R(R)) of the other beam splitter (22R), or of their respective extended planes, lies in a beam path leaving the variable focal length optical system.
