An impact tool (10) including a molded thermoplastic jacket (16) encasing a hollow core canister (14) having a flowable filler material (18) such as steel pellets or the like disposed therein for absorbing impact shock forces. The residual canister volume is occupied by at least one pulverable slug (20) prior to placement of the canister into the mold for formation of the jacket. The pulverable slug can withstand molding temperatures and pressures, so that it has a rigid structure. Subsequently, upon initial use of the impact tool, impact forces reduce the pulverable slug into a powder which fills in the voids of the fill material helping to absorb and dissipate the impact shock forces. |
