An exhaust gas recycling system for an IC engine has the recycling duct (4) connected to the cylinders by separate ducts controlled by a valve (5) which has a slider or plate element. The valve connects the recycling duct to groups of cylinders in turn, thereby isolating the groups from each other. The improves the gas dynamics of the separate cylinders. For controlling multiple cylinders a multiple element control valve is fitted.
