The apparatus includes a unit (36) for pressure-tight closure of the riser pipe (24) abstream of the mold cavity (28); a second pressure generation unit (38) for producing a predetermined additional compression pressure in the mold cavity. After a predetermined time from the filling of the mold cavity, the riser pipe is closed and additional compression pressure is produced in the mold cavity.
