A bleach stabiliser which includes an alkaline earth metal salt and one or more fatty acids, or one or more alkaline earth metal or fatty acid salts, is described. Preferably, the stabiliser includes a sequestrant, and the alkaline earth metal salt is magnesium sulphate. The bleach stabiliser aids the stability of alkaline peroxide based bleaches, including hydrogen peroxide based bleach. The bleach stabiliser avoids the use of sodium silicate. The bleach stabiliser can be used in either continuous or batch bleaching processes. |
