<p>An image sensing apparatus such as digital still camera and video camera having a protection cover for protecting an image sensing optical system. The cover is openable and closable. The image sensing apparatus comprises a cover driver for driving the protection cover; and a control circuit which determines whether the apparatus is set in a image sensing mode, or in an external control mode in which the apparatus is controlled by an external controller unit.
