摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for efficiently producing the subject compound useful as an asymmetrically epoxidizing catalyst for synthesizing an optically active phenylglycidic compound, etc., by treating a cyclic biaryl ester compound with a biocatalyst having an ability to asymmetrically hydrolyze the reactant. SOLUTION: The optically active cyclic biaryl compound comprising an optically active cyclic biaryl alcohol compound of formula II (the ring A is a non-substituted or substituted mono-tricyclic aromatic ring) and an optically active cyclic biaryl ester compound of formula I (R is an alkyl or an aryl) are safely and efficiently obtained by asymmetrically hydrolyzing a racemic cyclic biaryl ester compound of the formula I in the presence of a biocatalyst having an ability to asymmetrically hydrolyze the reactant to produce the optically active cyclic biaryl alcohol compound of the formula II and the optically active cyclic biaryl ester compound of the formula I, an ester of an antipode of the above alcohol compound.
