PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain the subject new medicine capable of freshly controlling the function of macrophage and especially useful for treating, improving and preventing cancer, autoimmune diseases which are human immune diseases, etc., by including a substance having an action for changing the content of reduction type glutathione in macrophage cells. SOLUTION: This immunomodulator contains a substance having an action to change the content of reduction type glutathione (GSH) in macrophage cells. The substance is preferably a substance which increases the content of GSH in the macrophage cells to stimulate the production of interleukin-12. A low molecular substance, for example, a GSH precursor such as N-acetylcysteine or a glutathione derivative such as a glutathione monoester, is especially preferable. The combination of the objective orally administrable low molecular medicine with an immunomodulator, for example, a polymer such asβ(1-3)glucan or cytokine, suitable for intravenous administration is preferable, because a large effect can be expected.
