PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a process capable of industrially and continuously producing a dialkyl carbonate by a non-phosgene method by using carbon monoxide and an alkyl nitrite as starting raw materials. SOLUTION: A dialkyl oxalate is formed from carbon monoxide and an alkyl nitrite, the formed product is separated into a dialkyl oxalate-containing condensate and a nitrogen monoxide-containing noncondensing gas. The noncondensing gas is brought into contact with molecular oxygen and an alkyl alcohol to regenerate the alkyl nitrite, the regenerated gas is recycled and supplied for the formation of the dialkyl oxalate. Then the diaryl oxalate is formed from the dialkyl oxalate and a phenyl compound, a diaryl carbonate and carbon monoxide are formed from the diaryl oxalate. The carbon monoxide is treated with an alkali and recycled and supplied for regenerating the alkyl nitrite. |
